Urth Caffe, Santa Monica
If you watch Entourage, you might have seen this place featured on a couple episodes, but in the West Hollywood location. Here’s a little piece about the caffe from their website:
“The Urth Caffé is an organic coffee company that exclusively carries its own brand of premium, fresh roasted whole bean organic coffee, and hand selected fine teas sold under strict quality and ethical standards. Urth Caffé organic coffees and fine teas can be discovered online, via mail order, in fine restaurants and Urth Caffé locations in Los Angeles.
Certified organic for the Urth means grown 100% chemical free. Only a handful of the world’s premiere, certified organically grown coffee beans can produce the flavor, richness, and aroma that make Urth Caffé’s organic coffees stand out from traditionally grown coffees. Urth Caffé’s organic coffee standards are unmatched nationwide.”
The café locations offer a wide selection of healthy entrees, soups, organic salads, and sandwiches. Urth fresh bakes their own delicious desserts with choices ranging from the most decadent to low fat, and vegan selections. I never knew they served food too until I went to the West Hollywood location a couple months ago. If you are in the area, I would definitely go to the one in Santa Monica. I waited for over 30 minutes to get a seat in West Hollywood and the caffe is a lot smaller than the Santa Monica one. Not to mention, it’s a little pretentious. By all means, if you want to spot celebrities and look hip, you’ll probably have better luck at the Hollywood location. Frankly, we came here after an 18 mile run in Santa Monica so we were hungry. No time to spend waiting around for a table, let alone our food!

The Urths Salad

A Bowl Of Vegetarian Chili

Mushroom Egg White Omelette

Loved this location and the plethora of outdoor seating. The food was fresh and made right to order, not to mention healthy and delicious. The coffee here is amazing. I was not exciting as I just ordered a regular cupa joe, but my friend ordered some latte? Anything that has pretty foam on top is good. Great spot for breakfast and lunch, and filled me up nicely after my long run

you need to have the SPANISH LATTE. that’s the prizeee!!! honey vanilla is good too (if you like that taste.. i do) and green tea latte
also, soup-wise, i actually find the vegetarian chili to be not as spectacular as some of their other. but maybe thats because my fave veg chili is from rutabegorz in fullerton… soup-wise favorites are corn chowder (non-dairy), clam chowder, artichoke potato, chicken soup (like GOOD homemade chicken noodle wo the noodles).
You can also sub 7-grain (sprouted) bread for the regular bread…or pita, etc for that matter. They also have stamp cards for coffee and tea.
I recommend their burrata salad! and their chicken curry salad is pretty dang good.
yes, i’m well studied in my Urth. I go to the downtown location almost once a week. This is the home baking location, if you’re ever curious to check it out.
Wow Steph, you should seriously consider writing Restaurant Reviews for the Examiner, you would be perfect!
