Walt Disney World Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge

August 4, 2009

This race has always sparked my interest ever since I heard about such a race last year. This is what the Goofy Challenge is:

Are you looking for the ultimate test of endurance? Then compete in Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge where you will run the Half Marathon on Saturday and then the Marathon on Sunday. If you finish both races in the time limit you will be awarded the coveted Goofy medal.

Yeah, you read that right. A half marathon on Saturday, and a full marathon the following day. This will be the ultimate test of endurance and the most challenging event I have ever done. I’m still on the fence as to whether or not I should sign up. This particular set of race is already 95% full, but the marathon itself is only 75% full. I would love to do it, but don’t know if I will be ready for something like this. I am usually feeling pretty good the day after a half marathon, but at the same time, I’m also not running a marathon the next day. Since I’m doing the Long Beach marathon in October and a Malibu half in November, I should still be in my training season for this race. The Goofy Challenge is Jan 7-10 and the course runs throughout Walt Disney World to the many resorts they have on site. One downfall to this race is definitely the cost. It is $285 just to do this challenge, on top of plane tickets and accommodations. Since we have a time share deal in Florida, I was looking up resorts in the nearby area, and I found some super cheap deals! Hopefully, I will be able to score some free plane tickets too! It will be a super short trip, probably leave Thursday night and come back Sunday. I really hate traveling the day of a race because I need to move around so my muscles don’t get cramped, but we have to come back Sunday because of classes Monday. It’s too bad we are only there for a couple days because there is so much to do in Orlando! I would love to spend a week, but school calls 😦 I will still be on winter vacay, but B will have already started school the week before. You can’t mess with skipping classes in grad school.

What do you guys think? Anyone doing this race or have done the half or full marathon?

I am doing the full. There is no way I could do the Goofy challenge – I’m happy to just cross the finish line for the full mary! But, it sounds fun (and crazy)!

Lol I agree, the Goofy challenge is crazy, but us runners are pretty crazy already for attempting a marathon! Hope we are able to get a blogger meet up that weekend!
