Grilled Onions, Prosciutto & Red Pepper Pizza

This is great quick weeknight meal when Friday can’t come any sooner. Why wait until the weekend to enjoy pizza? Homemade pizza is always the best because you can control the fat and sodium that goes on your pizza. Sautéed onions, prosciutto and Mozzarella cheese flavor this white pizza. I used store-bought whole-wheat pizza crust to keep it quick. This is also a great way to sneak in some extra vegetables that you might be missing throughout your day. Sometimes I can’t get myself to eat raw veggies so I sneak them into meals like this where the vegetables are mixed into something savory. The saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese flavor this tomato-less pizza, creating a unique twist on the classic pizza pie.

Grilled Onions, Prosciutto & Red Pepper Pizza

  • 1 whole-wheat prepared pizza crust
  • 1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
  • 2 ounces very thinly sliced prosciutto, cut into thin strips (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced thinly
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil


  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Coat a large baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Meanwhile, spray cooking oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onion, prosciutto and bell pepper and cook, stirring, until the onion is beginning to brown, about 3 minutes.
  3. Drizzle 1 teaspoon of olive oil evenly over the crust. Spread cheese on the crust and top with the onion mixture. Bake until crispy and golden and the cheese is melted, 8 to 10 minutes.
