Great Chefs of L.A.

November 15, 2009

Last weekend, I won tickets from the lovely ladies of Uncouth Gourmand to the Great Chefs of L.A event. The event hosted a ton of famous L.A restaurants and wineries, similar to the Malibu Food & Wine Event. I actually saw some of the same restaurants serving the same dishes. I got the chance to meet up with the ladies of UG in person, how awesome is the food blogging community?

They gave me an extra pair of tickets so I asked my partner in crime, Steph, who is also just as crazy about food as I am to come join me. She can probably name every restaurant in L.A. and all the specialties on their menu. Don’t ask me how, but this girl knows her stuff when it comes to L.A restaurants.

Honestly, I don’t really remember what each dish tasted like since I was in a food coma in less than an hour and this happened last weekend, and yes, I am a bad blogger for putting it up now. Not to mention, we also walked through all the booths and sampled all the food in an hour. World record. I will recap some of our favorites though…

Akasha-Beer Braised Niman Ranch Short Ribs. Apple Slaw Horseradish-Celery Seed Dressing. Plum-Mustard Chutney

Cousin is in love with this tea

POM Wonderful Cupcakes

This is seriously the weirdest thing ever, it's a sushi push pop. You push the stick and a sushi roll comes out.

La Loggia Restaurant-Paella Valenciana

Duck sandwich with butternut squash soup

XIV-Chilled Vichyssoise, Creme Fraiche Foam, Olive Oil Leeks, Caviar

Wild Mushroom & Gruyere Quiche

Minx-Spicy Ahi Tuna Tacos

Pork Belly Sliders

This was both our favorite, hands down. From East Restaurant & Lounge. So clean and simple

East Restaurant & Lounge-Scallops on the 1/2 shell: lemongrass sambal, wasabi creme fraiche, shiso dust, micro silantro & Hawaiian Walu: miso mustard cream, micro wasabi, chive essence, smoked chardonnay sea salt

The Bazaar wins for the most visually stunning & creative plates

Sous Chef Marcel Vigernon

The Bazaar-Tomato Mozzarella Pipets

The Bazaar-Guacamole Cone

The Bazaar-Bonbons

8 oz. Burger Bar-Short Rib Grilled Cheese with Onion Marmalade and Bel Paese Cheese Truffled Potato Chips

After all this food, we promptly went to La Cachette for a 5 course dinner, after a good 3 hour cardio shopping session in Santa Monica 😉
