Gordon Ramsay brings California Flair to Boxwood Café in West Hollywood

December 13, 2009

I was fortunate enough this weekend to sample a tasting of Gordon Ramsay’s cuisine at Boxwood Cafe. Chef Gordon Ramsay may be known for his T.V. personality in “Hell’s Kitchen”, but the Boxwood Café at The London Hotel in West Hollywood embodies a simple and elegant dining experience. Gordon Ramsay brings delectable casual dining to this Los Angeles restaurant by boasting a bistro-style ambiance and menu. This informal addition to the fine-dining restaurant features a streamlined menu of simple, comfort fare using seasonal ingredients and local produce from across the region. The prices are considerably lower compared to Chef Ramsay’s Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant, Gordon Ramsay at The London. Executive Chef Andy Cook overlooks both restaurants and it is evident in the food at Boxwood Café that it is served by the same kitchen as Gordon Ramsay.

Boxwood Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Start your meal with a colorful and flavorful roasted corn tortilla soup with cojito cheese, where the waiter pours the soup directly into your bowl upon serving. Or perhaps try the creamy, melt in your mouth gnocchi with crisp prosciutto and ricotta garnished with spicy rocket lettuce. Main courses include dishes such as Sake miso-marinated Pacific black cod topped with seasonal mushrooms and bok choy or a Wild Salmon with cucumber salad and eggplant gazpacho. To finish off your meal, there is an array of delectable desserts to choose from, like the crisp thin apple tart with fennel ice cream or blueberry cheesecake with a dulce de leche sauce.

You can’t forget the extensive wine list or the specialty cocktails like the Melrose Peach with Absolut Vanilla Vodka, Absolut Apeach Vodka, Fresh Lemon Juice, and White Peach Puree.
