The Tripel, Playa Del Rey

March 9, 2012

I had a random craving for burgers and fries the other day and Short Order seemed too far away, and also B isn’t a big fan of the burgers at Short Order 😦

How can you not love this?

Anyways, he’s the burger connoseiur so what do I know.

The Tripel opened up not too long ago and it’s less than a mile walk from my place, not like we walked or anything. Who does that in L.A? This upscale gastropub is tiny but the food is superb with quality ingredients and worth the wait to grab a seat. It was packed on a Thursday night so we stood around for a while at the bar before some seats opened up for us. We considered taking the food to go, but the beer list looked intriguing. I wouldn’t really recommend this place if you have a big group. It’s either communal table seating or the bar and they don’t take reservations. However, if you happen to stop in at 3PM on a weekend, it’s completely empty. Not like I would know or anything…

They have a great selection of craft beer, wine and beer cocktails. No hard liquor. Though, B and I were both pretty buzzed after a couple glasses. Either we are both lightweights or…we are both lightweights. #cheapdate

Black Market Hefeweizen

Garlic Shoestring Frites with horseradish honey mustard and spiced aioli dipping sauce

Victory Golden Monkey Tripel

Sweet Potato Tater Tots (I can’t stop thinking about these, it comes out hot and crispy, unlike any other tots I’ve had)

The Tripel Burger-Medium-rare Pork & Aged Beef topped by Duck Confit, Truffle Pecorino Cheese, Arugula, Apricot Jam on an Onion Brioche Bun

The Pretzel Burger-Aged Beef, House-made Poppy Sweet Slaw, Spicy Aioli, Caramelized Onions, Hook’s 2 yr old Cheddar, Rockenwagner pretzel bread

It was really hard to get a good picture of this monster burger because the lighting was so dim. We couldn’t even read the menu without using our iPhone flashlight. Or we are just getting old.
