Protein Packed Strawberry Smoothie

April 6, 2012

Happy Friday!

Whenever I’m not eating my standard oats for breakfast, I love making smoothies in the morning. Especially with the warmer weather, there are so many endless varieties you can make with a few ingredients. To bulk up the smoothie, I like to add oats (for the texture), flax or chia seeds, whey protein powder and non fat greek yogurt (both for the protein). Sometimes I’ll add in a handful of frozen spinach to get in some veggies (I promise you can’t taste it, the smoothie just turns green). I have yet to try kale which I’m a little nervous about doing because I don’t even like to eat raw kale to begin with. The great thing about smoothies is that you can add whatever fruit you have on hand or what’s in season. I use frozen fruit so I don’t have to use ice cubes which dilute the taste. Feel free to swap out almond milk with regular milk or another dairy substitute.

This is a great wake-me-up smoothie to get your weekend started.

Protein Packed Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
  • 1/4 cup raw oats
  • 1 tablespoon flax seeds or chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup nonfat strawberry or vanilla greek yogurt
  • 1.5 cups almond milk

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy!
